Limi, a settlement in the northern highland of Namkha rural municipality, is without modern communication services for the last two weeks.

India is to close the transit points on the border with Nepal for four days in view of the State Legislative election taking place in its Uttarakhand state. India is closing the border check points bordering with Baitadi and Darchula districts of Nepal for four days from today.

23 cameras meant for tiger census stolen and damaged   

Sixteen cameras installed at the Banke and Bardiya National Parks for the tiger census have reportedly been stolen. Similarly six have been damaged by elephants, according to National Trust for Nature Conservation, Bardiya chief Dr Rabin Kadariya. This has affected the census. Nine cameras were stolen from the Block ‘1’ followed by four each from Block’2’ and ‘3’. The cost of cameras is Rs 40,000 each.  

Snowfall blocks Mid-Hill Highway for week  

The Mid-Hill Highway also known as the Pushpalal Highway in Rukum East which was obstructed by snowfall occurred on February 1 is yet to be come into operation. Vehicles have remained off the Highway for a week due to road obstructions, causing inconvenience to the passengers.

A rhino was found dead at Kavretaal near Baghmara post of Chitwan National Park (CNP).   

Weather: Cloudy in hilly region and foggy in Tarai   

The Westerly wind has general impact in the weather of the country at present. It is partly to generally cloudy in the hilly region while it is foggy in some parts of the Tarai due to the influence of this weather system, the Meteorological Forecasting Division said.    

Rhino horn smuggler arrested after 23 years 

The Chitwan National Park (CNP) has been able to arrest the convict on smuggling rhinoceros horn after 23 years of the crime. Krishna Prasad Neupane, 58, from Kalika Municipality-2 in the district had been absconding for such a long time.    

Flight conducted after five days in Humla 

The flights to and from Simkot airport have been conducted after five days. The flights were possible after removing the snow piled up at airport.    

Medical relief provided to vulnerable citizens

Shivanath Rural Municipality, in Baitadi district, has provided a medical relief worth Rs. 453,000 to 57 needy people from the Disadvantaged Citizens’ Assistance Fund. The municipality provided financial aid for the treatment of its 57 vulnerable people, who have been suffering from various ailments for long, but were unable to receive treatment due to their poor financial condition. The feasibility study team formed under the coordination of Chief of Labor Relations and Social Security Division of the Ministry Shesh Narayan Poudel will study the human, material, financial and managerial resources, operation modalities and other aspects for the operation of the hospital.

Flights at Suketar airport continue to get obstructed today   

Flights at Suketar airport in Taplejung district have been continuously obstructed today due to bad weather condition and snowfall, said the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC). As a result, flights to and from the district have been cancelled standing 14 passengers who booked tickets for Kathmandu, said Lokendra Limbu, station in-charge of the NAC in Taplejung.

There is still influence of westerly low-pressure system in the country.     According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, the weather in hilly-areas of the country is now partly to generally cloudy due to the influence of westerly low-pressure system.  

Two murdered in Khukuri attack 

Two persons were murdered in a Khukuri attack at Upper Chimling of Balefi rural municipality-7 on Sunday evening.     A local Bijay Tamang killed Basumaya Tamang, 70, and Santa Bir Tamang, 59, of the same place using Khukuri, according to the District Police Office.

Makeshift stretcher is a means to carry sick people in Sarlahi

In the geographically remote settlements of the northern Chure region of Sarlahi, makeshift stretcher (prepared using bed sheet and bamboo) is still used to carry the sick people. Residents of Chure, which is not connected to the road network, are forced to rely on the makeshift stretcher locally called Jholungo to reach the hospital when they fall ill. There is such a problem in the settlements of Ishworpur, Lalbandi, Hariwan of Chure region of Bagmati Municipality of the district.

Youth killed in road accident

Doctors not receiving incentive allowance concerning  

Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security Krishna Kumar Shrestha has expressed concern over the failure to provide incentive allowance to the doctors of Damauli Hospital. He expressed his concern following a news report by the National News Agency (RSS) about the doctors not getting their due allowance.
