Tipper hits cyclist to death

A cyclist was killed after he was hit by a tipper at Damak this morning. The tipper (Ko 1 Kha 5524) hit cyclist Sobhit Darji in the inner road of Hariom Colony Marg, said District Traffic Police Office, Damak.         

Bagmati State to close Churiyamai transit point with State-2 from today 

The Churiyamai transit point on the East-West Highway which is the entry point to Bagmati State from State-2 is to be closed from today. The Makawanpur district COVID-19 prevention command post decided to close the movement of people and vehicles to Hetauda via Churiyamai transit after the spread of coronavirus infection in districts of State-2 adjoining the Bagmati province.

NRNA expresses solidarity to protection of Nepal's land 

The Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) has expressed its anger over India's latest act of encroaching and constructing a road through Nepal's territory, instead of settling the border dispute with Nepal through diplomatic and political dialogue.

Rain forecast for next few days

Brief rain accompanied with thundershowers, gusty winds and hail has been predicted today at some places of the hilly regions and at a few places of the Terai region. There will be generally cloudy throughout the country, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.    

Ukrainian national rescued  

A backpacker from Ukraine has been rescued after being stranded for about one month in course of visiting the base camp of Mt Makalu in Sankhuwasabha district. He is 26-year- old Artem Suhoniakin. He had come for trekking to the Mt Makalu base camp on March 15. 

Storm, rainfall predicated till Tuesday

The Division has also published an advisory, urging caution as the impact of westerly and local winds will continue to cause storm and rainfall in most of places in the country. Furthermore, there are also chances of thunderstorm, lightning and light to moderate rainfall in majority of the places across the country till Tuesday.

Blood donation programme amidst lockdown  

A blood donation programme was held in Saturday amidst the lockdown in order to ensure that there is no scarcity of blood for the needy. A total of 120 unit of blood was collected in the programme organized by Garden Club Pokhara-11.

A special hospital to treat coronavirus infected persons has come into operation here today. The hospital is established by the State-2 government in the premises of Nursing Campus.    

Relief provided to around 18 thousand needy families in Bardiya 

The first phase relief assistance has been provided to 18 thousand needy families in Bardiya district.     The District Administration Office Bardiya said the relief assistance has been distributed to the families of the economically vulnerable and workers facing problem managing food and bare necessities for sustenance due to the lockdown enforced by the government to prevent and control

Share market to open from Tuesday

The Securities Board of Nepal has directed Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) to re-operate the share market from coming Tuesday or May 12.    

Private schools say they are unable to pay teachers

Many private schools have not paid the salaries to their  teachers and other employees from mid-March citing the government instruction not to charge any fee to the school children after the closure of schools due to coronavirus fear and lockdown.

Youth kills parents  

A youth has murdered his parents at local Ishibu of Phedap rural municipality-5. Twenty-year-old Kanchan Limbu attacked his father Rup Bahadur Limbu and step-mother Isha Khapung Limbu with an axe at 6pm on Thursday, killing them instantaneously. The father is 42 years old while the step-mother is 35 years old.    

State-2 releases Rs 2 billion for COVID-19 control 

The State-2 government is spending two billion rupees in prevention and control of COVID-19.     The State government's Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning has released this amount out of the total State budget. The State-2 government's total budget for fiscal year 2019/2020 is Rs 38.72 billion.  

Tiger mauls local representative

A local government member has sustained serious injuries after he was attacked by a tiger on Thursday. He is 65-year-old Mayaram Khanal of Geruwa. Khanal is the Ward Member of the Geruwa rural municipality-4. He was attacked by a Royal Bengal tiger at around 3pm while grazing buffalo on the fringe of Bardiya National Park, said Dil Bahadur BC, a local.    

Municipality distributing medicines to chronic patients

The chronic patients now would feel relief after the local government’s decision. The people suffering diabetes, high blood pressure, uric acid, and liver, kidney and heart problems are provided medicines for free, Mayor Dambar Bahadur Aryal said. The medicine distribution started from Melalmchi-7 today.
