NHRC monitoring team in Karnali faces mistreatment

A press statement issued by NHRC’s spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokharel here today said that a letter has been written to the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Minister and Chief Secretary of the Karnali Province, Chandraman Shrestha to provide the factual details about the incident.

Local levels for investment in Karnali development 

 Chief of Karnali Province Govinda Prasad Kalauni has said the State must not delay augmenting investment for the development in Karnali Province. He suggested the Municipal Development Fund to prioritize investment for Karnali development.         

Locals from Sundarijal to Balkhu urged to remain alert

The Melamchi Water Supply Development Board has appealed to the locals to remain alert, saying the water level in the Bagmati river might rise while testing the water supply project tunnel.

Youth role crucial for checking wildlife hunting   

Various stakeholders have highlighted a crucial role of youths in checking wildlife hunting and poaching.    Speakers said this at a programme organized at Devchuli municipality of Nawalpur to mark the World Wildlife Day with the 'Forest and Livelihood: Sustaining People and Planet".     They called for youths to be proactive for the prevention and control of wildlife poaching and smuggling.

Bagmati cleanup campaign to be focused at Pashupati area   

The Bagmati cleanup mega campaign scheduled for coming March 6 and 13 is to be focused in the Pashupati area with a view to providing clean environment to religious visitors on the occasion of Mahashivaratri.    

Dharahara reconstruction nears completion

In addition to the work on the tower, other structures such as the triple basement, four-storey museum are being constructed simultaneously. Work on the museum has begun and around 65 per cent of work on the triple basement has been completed so far, Raju Man Manandhar, an expert with the European Union Technical Support, which is working under the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), said.

88 species of birds counted at Barekot

Barekot is rich in biological diversities and the study spanned for three days. The bird survey was economically assisted by the Network and was held in partnership of the Danfe Youth Club. The survey team includes Network's coordinator Saroj Shrestha, Chitwan Bird Society Chair Ramesh Chaudhary, local teacher Kali Bahadur Thapa and the community forest rangers.

Police arrested two persons along with brown sugar from Mechingar municipality-6 of Jhapa on Tuesday.    

Raute leaders demand food and tent with chief minister Shahi   

Nomadic Raute leader Dil Bahadur Shahi called on Chief Minister of the Karnali province government, Mahendra Bahadur Shahi. At the meeting held with the chief minister at latter’s residence on Tuesday, Dil Bahadur voiced his complaint that Gurans rural municipality did not grant them the regular allowance they were entitled to get for four consecutive months.    

Fire destroys 47 houses, displacing 79 families in Dobhan bazaar 

Seventy-nine families have been displaced after Dobhan bazaar, the border of Meringden rural municipality-3 and Athrai Tribeni rural municipality caught fire this morning.     Chief of Taplejung Police Office, Balran Singh Rana, said that the fire is still to come under control. A total of 47 houses were destroyed in fire, displacing 79 families, he added.    

Government pays attention to forest conservation: PM Oli 

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said the government has paid attention to the conservation, management, development and benefit among the allied topics. Addressing the Eighth National Council of the Federation of Community Forestry Users Nepal (FECOFUN) here today, he said the government would initiate steps only after assessing the status of forestry and the environment. 

KMC writes to DoA to remove illegal shops in and around Basantapur Area

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has sent a letter to the Department of Archeology (DoA) to get rid of the illegally run shops in Basantapur Area in Kathmandu.     There are many such shops being run towards north of the Fire Brigade Office and in the buildings nearby Taleju Bhawani Temple. The removal is asked to be carried out within a week, according to the letter.

Fire guts properties worth Rs 4 million 

Properties worth Rs 4 million gutted in a fire that broke out in Hotel Sa:Sa Inn at Vyas Municipality in Tanahun district at 2:00 am this morning.     The District Police Office, Tanahun, said that the fire occurred after an explosion in a power transmitter near the hotel following the power leakage.    

One rupee donation drive for Lumbini Peace Sanctuary

Currently under construction at Lumbini, the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautam, the Mahasiddhi Sanctuary for Universal Peace launched a website on Feb. 27 as a means to entertain and encourage online donation. Prior to this, SAARC Secretary General Esala Ruwan Weerakoon had initiated a donation campaign to collect funds for the ambitious infrastructure.

Vyas statue being constructed in Damauli

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation (MOTCA) has stepped up to partner with Damauli, Tanahun district’s headquarters, for the construction of a 108-ft tall Vyas statue. The ministry extended its hand for the construction of the statue to develop and amplify tourism infrastructures in the district.

Nepalis in South Korea provide financial assistance to Bhagirathi's family   

Sudurpaschim Samaj based in South Korea has provided financial support to the family of Bhagirathi Bhatta of Baitadi. The organisation collected Rs 283,500 to assist the Bhatta family.     Bhatta of Dogadakedar Rural Municipality was murdered after her rape almost a month ago.    

Rajdal barrack gets rainwater harvesting facility

The Centre for Integrated Urban Development, with the support from WaterAid Nepal and The Coca Cola Foundation has handed over Rainwater Harvesting and Groundwater Recharge project to Rajdal Army Barrack, Lagankhel.

Laying a foundation stone for the Gandaki Province Staff College building today at Nadipur of Pokhara metropolis-3, the Prime Minister said the federal government had set a course for development through seven province governments and the province governments through 753 local levels.
