Preliminary stocktaking for Sanfe-Martadi road alternative underway   

A team comprising district-level stakeholders took stock of the status of Sanfe-Martadi road and its alternative route.     The team headed by the District Disaster Management Committee coordinator and Chief District Officer Krishna Gaire enquired about the situation of Twari-Amkot-Balde road.     CDO Gaire shared that the team made an on-site inspection and explored a preliminary feasibility of the new route.

11 go missing in Sankhuwasabha landslide 

Eleven people have gone missing as a landslide swept away seven houses at Besinda of Sisuwakhola of Silichong rural municipality-1 in Sankhuwasabha. Three people were rescued from the landslide triggered by incessant rainfall last night, said ward chair Ram Bahadur Kulung.    

One swept away by flood 

A man has died after being swept away by the Triyuga river. The incident took place on Saturday evening, when Man Chaudhary,60, of Triyuga municipality-9 was crossing the river on his way home. 

Nine bodies recovered, three missing 

The bodies of nine people who were buried in a landslide in Barekot-4 in the district on Thursday night have been recovered. Three are still missing.     The bodies of Gopal Sarki,52, his 11-year-old son Arjun, 14-year-old daughter Tirkha, 20-year-old Dilli, 14-year-old Gauri Sarki of Kushe rural municipality, Kabita Sarki,16, Birendra Sarki,18, were recovered on Friday. Likewise, the bodies of Kalpana Sarki and six-year-old Subash Sarki were recovered on Saturday.    

   Preparedness to minimize monsoon-caused disasters in Banke  

High alertness is maintained with the increasing risk of inundation and floods in the district.     The locality near Rapti River faces risk of inundation and floods every rainy season. People have been alert in view of the rising water level in the river. Chief District Officer Ram Bahadur Kurunbang said the administration has kept its entire mechanism in high alertness to tackle the possible risk of natural disasters.    

Rainfall likely for next three days 

The weather will likely remain cloudy with chances of rainfall across the country in the next three days as the monsoon has become active of late, the Meteorological Forecasting Division said. 

Four of same family ill after eating wild mushroom  

Four members of a same family have taken ill after consuming wild mushroom at Rohini Rural Municipality- 1in Rupandehi. The family ate curry made of mushroom brought from the jungle on Friday evening.    

Locust to be bought for 100 rupees per kg

The Arjundhara municipality of Jhapa has allocated a budget of Rs. 500,000 to purchase locust. The budget has been set aside in order to minimize the damage from the locust to the agriculture sector, said Mayor Hari Kumar Rana. 

149 returnees sent to Kharipati quarantine 

Altogether 149 people who returned from Qatar on Friday have been taken to the Kharipati quarantine after suspicion of Corona Virus infection. Among them six are women and a girl child.  

Eight local levels at high risk of landslide in Baitadi

Meanwhile, four out of the eight local levels at high risk of landslide in the district have not yet prepared their disaster management plan. The Surnaya rural municipality, Patan municipality, Sigas rural municipality and Pancheshwor rural municipality have not formulated their local disaster management plan.

Six more hospitals, labs allowed to conduct paid PCR test

Koshi hospital of Province 1, Narayani hospital of Province 2, Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences in Gandaki Province, Lumbini hospital, Butawal, of Province 5, Provincial Public Health Laboratory-Surkeht of Karnali Province and Provincial Laboratory-Dhangadhi of Sudur Paschim Province have been allowed to conduct the test by charging a fee of Rs. 5,500 for the RT-PCR test of those samples that do not fall within the criteria of the guidelines of the ministry, according to Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, MoHP...

Death toll in Sarangkot landslide reaches seven    

Death toll in the landslide occurred at Sarangkot in Pokhara Metropolitan City-18 has reached seven.     The deceased have been identified as Tanka Bahadur Thapa, 50, his wife Sommaya Thapa, 45, 11-year-old Ishika Thapa, six-year-old Suwan Thapa and right-year-old Shital Shrestha of Damauli, Tanahun, according to the District Police Office.    

  Monsoon activities to intensify for four days   

Monsoon activities will likely intensify from today until Sunday, the Meteorological Forecasting Division has said.     Meteorologist Pratibha Manandhar said there was the possibility of increased monsoon activities in the next four days due to the location of the monsoon low pressure system near the Tarai region of Nepal.

  COVID-19: 17 new cases spotted in State No. 1  

A total of 17 new cases of coronavirus infection spotted in State 1 on Wednesday.     The Social Development Ministry of the State said that Jhapa has seven new cases while three in Morang, two in Sunsari, two each in Taplejung and Ilam, and one in Tehrathum districts. With this, the total number of infected persons in State 1 reached 702.  

Border pillar dislodged 

Border pillar number 207 along the Nepal-India border Baijudanda in Belauri Municipality-2, Kanchanpur, was found dislocated. Security personnel said that the border pillar in dilapidated condition was dislocated for lack of timely repair tasks.

Since 2016 Nepal has had 80 JDS Fellows and 22 government officials are expected to go to Japan in 2020. Through the grant assistance signed today, up to 22 government officials will be selected as JDS Fellows
