103 vehicles attempting to enter Kathmandu Valley returned from entry point

A total of 103 vehicles trying to enter the Kathmandu Valley without vehicle permit during the ongoing lockdown were returned from the entry point on Tuesday. Those with essential supplies, however, have been allowed the entry.    

Lockdown extended for 11 days, till May 18

Considering the threat of spread of COVID-19, the meeting of the Council of Ministers held today at the PM's residence, Baluwatar, decided to extend the lockdown until May 18, said Surya Thapa, press advisor to the PM.

NAC wide-body planes flying to Beijing and Sydney today

The national flag-carrier, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), is operating two chartered flights today.     The NAC's wide-body aircraft each will take off for Beijing and Sydney. The planes have been chartered by the private businessmen to bring the essential medical supplies and by the related countries to rescue their citizens from Nepal, NAC spokesperson Archana Khadka said.

Three persons, one from Kathmandu and two from Birgunj, who were discharged after recovering from COVID-19, have tested positive for the virus in the follow up test done through PCR technique.

Desite having the entry pass, the vehicles are not permitted to get through the capital city from border points—Nagdhunga, Pharping, Mudkhu, Jagati and Jarsinghpauwa—except for emergencies. Now, only the vehicles carrying highly essentials goods and health supplies would be permitted to enter the capital city from other districts.    

Health professionals from WHO, MoHP deployed in Nepalgunj

Following confirmation of 23 COVID-19 positive cases, health workers from World Health Organisation (WHO), Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) and State 5 Ministry of Social Development have been deployed in Nepalgunj. High alert measures have been placed in State 5 following the confirmation of 17 coronavirus infection cases. Seventeen people have been confirmed to have contracted the virus in the State on last Saturday and Sunday. A man from Rupandehi, who had been working at tailor shops at Gandhinagar in India, was said to have transmitted the virus infection to others. The tailor worker had reached the State at 1.00pm on April 7 from his workplace at Gandhinagar.    

Eleven Indians sneaking out through border held   

Eleven Indian Muslims were apprehended while trying to cross the Nepal-India border this morning amidst the lockdown.     These people were arrested with the help of Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force as they were attempting to cross the border to India via Bathanaha village of Marasiswa municipality-9 in the early morning, Baliram Raya, the municipality's Ward Chair, said.

Death toll from unknown disease in Mahottari reaches 11

On Saturday, 55-year-old Indian national Motilal Prajapati, a brick kiln worker at Bardibas-12, and Palat Sah, 48, of Bhangaha-6 died of the disease. All other deceased are from Bardibas-12, Bhangaha-6 and 7.
