Mahottari, May 2: The death toll from an unknown disease in Bhangaha and Bardibas has reached 11, the district police office confirmed.
On Saturday, 55-year-old Indian national Motilal Prajapati, a brick kiln worker at Bardibas-12, and Palat Sah, 48, of Bhangaha-6 died of the disease. All other deceased are from Bardibas-12, Bhangaha-6 and 7.
Mayor of Bhangaha Municipality Sanjib Kumar Sah suspected that the locals could have died from the consumption of bootleg liquor.
Likewise, Mayor of Bardibas Municipality Bidur Kumar Karki said that the reason behind the death would be confirmed after the postmortem.
Meanwhile, Dr Amrit Pokhrel from Department of Health Services and Dr Sudipa Khadka from the World Health Organization along with a team from the District Health Office visited the affected area on Saturday.
The District Police Office has sent the specimens of two persons for the PCR test after their death to confirm whether they carried the coronavirus.
