By Mahima Devkota, Kathmandu, June 28: Remdesivir, a medicine used in the treatment of COVID-19, has been successfully produced in Nepal.
The National Healthcare Private Limited has brought the Remdesivir medicine to the market from Sunday. It is the first pharmaceutical to produce Remdesivir medicine in the country.
Ajay Pandey, Vice-President Marketing of the National Healthcare Private Limited. said that Remdesivir medicine has been brought to the market since yesterday and is sold at Rs. 3,500 per vial.
“Currently, 15,000 vials of Remdesivir medicine have been produced in the first phase. However, we can add to the production as per the demand,” Pandey told The TRN Online.
Santosh KC, information officer of the Department of Drug Administration (DDA), said that National Health Care Pharmaceuticals Limited was permitted to produce the Remdesivir medicine on 14 May this year.
"It got permission from the DDA to take the produced Remdesivir medicine in the market on Sunday," he added.
According to the DDA, the pharmaceutical has the injectable facility which is needed to produce Remdesivir. So, permission for the production of the medicine was granted to the national pharmaceuticals.
It has been said that Remdesivir molecule has been brought from China, however, all other production process was done by the National Healthcare Private Limited.
