‘Prank on strangers without prior consent illegal’

A man in his 40s was having lunch at a local restaurant near Lokanthali, Bhaktapur, but all of sudden a disguised prankster entered the same hotel and sat at the same table. A minute after the sitting of the stranger (later disclosed as prankster), who had a paper-made stick in his hand, suddenly banged the table with the stick while another man was quietly having his lunch.

Election Commission submits annual report to President

The Election Commission (EC) has submitted its annual report for the fiscal year 2077-78 BS (2020-21) to President Bidya Devi Bhandari. Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya today presented the report before the Head-of-the-State in accordance with the Article 294 (1) of the Constitution. The submission took place amidst a ceremony at the Office of the President.

Waiting time for driving license exams only increasing

Roshan, a 24-year-old from Koteshwor, has been planning to buy a motorcycle so that he could easily commute to his office at Sundhara. Before buying a motorcycle, Roshan, however, needed a driving license. “At first, I applied for a driving license through the online system in February 2021 at the Chabahil-based Transport Management Office. I was given the date of October, 2021 for biometrics. It was eight months later,” said Roshan.

Ruling coalition agrees to hold local polls by mid-June

The second meeting of the five-party ruling coalition held on Saturday forged consensus to hold local level elections by mid-June, 2022. Top leaders of the ruling parties met twice on Saturday and the second meeting concluded to hold the local elections. The meeting held at Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba`s official residence in Baluwatar suggested the government to conclude the local elections by Mid-June, said government spokesman Gynendra Bahadur Karki after the meeting.

Contractor reaches Melamchi site to clear debris

More than seven months after the intake of the Melamchi Water Supply Project (MWSP) was buried by debris brought by massive floods in the Melamchi River in Sindhupalchowk on 15 June 2021, works have begun to clear them. Chinese contractor Sino Hydro has recently moved heavy equipment to the site and begun preparations to remove the debris from Friday, said Bashu Dev Paudyal, Executive Director of the Melamchi Water Supply Development Board.

Negligent construction leading to animal deaths

On Sunday, a rhinoceros died after falling in a drain dug in the Barandabhar forest area along the East-West Highway. In March last year, a female rhinoceros died after falling into a septic tank at the Tiger Land Safari Resort in Jagatpur, near Kasara. Four years earlier in 2018, another rhino was rescued from the septic tank of a hotel in Sauraha.
