Nepal marked the 5th National Day of Community Forest on Sunday in a bid to encourage and appreciate community forest consumers’ groups for their contribution to the protection and conservation of forests in the country.

21 persons in Saptari including two engineers working at Malangwa Municipality test positive for COVID-19

Swabs of 139 persons of Malangwa were collected on Friday and sent to Janakpurdham-based Provincial Public Health Laboratory for the PCR testing. Of the 139 swab samples, PCR report of 29 was received, and of them 21 had tested positive for COVID-19.

14 Nepali Army personnel test positive for COVID-19 in Pyuthan

As many as 23 persons of the district were found infected with the virus in the PCR test carried out at the Provincial Public Laboratory, Bhairahawa on Monday. The 23 persons, 20 males and 3 females, include the NA officials and they belong to the age group of 12-46 year.

Entry from Sanga tightened amidst COVID-19 fear

CIAA holds government employee with bribes of Rs 1 million  

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has held a government employee with a bribe of over Rs 1 million from Dhunibensi in Dhading district.     Santosh Sah, chief engineer at the Nepal Water Supply Corporation, Butwal, has been charged with taking bribe of that amount from service seekers. Siraha’s Dhangadhimai municipality goes into lockdown for a week  

The Dhangadhi municipality in Siraha has gone into a week-long lockdown citing the growing risk of coronavirus. The death of a woman from the virus in neighbouring Golbazaar municipality and the rising COVID-19 cases in Lahan municipality has prompted the Dhangadhi municipality to come up with the lockdown order till August 16 beginning from today.    

CMC urges public to remain cautious of COVID-19 outbreak 

In view of increasing risk of COVID-19, Bharatpur metropolis mayor Renu Dahal has urged the public to adopt security alertness with high will power.     In an appeal today, she said the battle against the coronavirus can be possible only by adopting higher security alerts. PCR testing at community level  

PCR testing has been undertaken in different areas of Tanahun district to identify the status of corona infection at community level.     According to the District Health Office, the testing was carried out in the offices marked with frequent flow of service recipients, garage workshop, banks and financial institutions, office of the security personnel and salons, among others.    

Road expansion dislodging frogs of Kathmandu

Road expansion is taking a toll on Kathmandu’s frogs, as suggested by a recent article published in the Global Ecology and Conservation Journal. The study, which looked at the influence of soil moisture and roads on the occurrence of frogs in Kathmandu Valley, found that construction and expansion of infrastructures like roads lead to the modification and destruction of wetlands. This, in turn, brings about a loss of habitat for amphibians like frogs and directly impacts their population.

Bank sealed off after employees test positive for coronavirus 

     The bank employee of 34-year-old from Mahottari district was found positive for the COVID-19. Lahan Municipality's health section chief Ram Sundar Yadav informed that the bank employees were kept in a quarantine facility set up at a local hotel.
