Kathmandu, Aug. 11: Hindus across the country are celebrating Krishna Janmashtami on Tuesday.
According to the scriptures, Lord Sri Krishna was born to Vasudev and Devaki in prison in the midnight on the 8th day of the dark fortnight as per the lunar calendar during the Dwapar era.
Devotees throng various temples of Lord Krishna from early in the morning to pay homage to Krishna and offer various items. The famous Krishna Temple in Patan always draws a big crowd of devotees on this auspicious day.
But this year, the Krishna Temple and other shrines have remained closed for four months due to the coronavirus. With the beginning of the festive season, the government has urged the people not to crowd up while celebrating the festivals and cultural processions in view of increasing cases of the coronavirus.
The coronavirus infection risk has, of late, increased in the Kathmandu Valley.
Sandeep Khanal, chief of Patan Museum, said that except for the regular puja performance by priests, no other activities will be organised to mark the Krishna Janmashtami this year.
“We have already posted banners informing the devotees that no activities will be organised on the day. In regard to possible crowd of devotees even in the closed temple, we have already informed the police administration to avert the crowd,” he said.
