963 more infected in a week  

A second wave of Corona Virus around the world has seen more infections in Nepalis living abroad. In the past week, 963 new infections were reported in different countries, according to the Non-resident Nepalis Association.

Indian citizen arrested with brown sugar 

A police team from the Narcotics Control Bureau, Kakarvitta arrested Sadhik Alam,25, a resident of Khorobari in West Bengal, India in possession of 26 grams of brown sugar on Saturday evening, according to District Police Office, Jhapa spokesperson DSP Rakesh Thapa. 

367 rape cases reported in last six months, 77 per cent victims are minors

Rape cases continue to rise in Nepal despite strict laws in place, according to the latest data of the Women Rehabilitation Center (WOREC). As many as 367 cases of rape were reported in the last six months (April/May to September/October 2020), the report unveiled by the WOREC said. Of the total rape cases reported in the period, 44 were gang rapes, the report stated.

With 2,508 new cases of the novel coronavirus infection confirmed on Saturday, the national COVID-19 caseload has reached 170,743.

73-year-old man from Jhapa dies of COVID-19, death toll hits 35 

The 73-year-old man died today morning at Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), said the BPKIHS. He was tested positive for the infection on October 12 and admitted to the hospital on October 13.

  Driver's assistant killed in road accident   

A man died in a road accident that took place at Dhara in Chedagad municipality-10 this morning. Ram Bahadur Singh,24, a resident of Kuse rural municipality-6 died in the accident.

Call for immediate rescue of students from Dehradun 

Nepal Students' Union, the sister organization of main opposition Nepali Congress, has demanded immediate rescue and free medical treatment of the Nepali students who were injured in the Derhadun incident.

Over collection threatens white lotus in Pokhara lakes

Lotus production in different lakes of Pokhara has diminished rapidly of late. This has worried local woman groups, which had initiated activities for its protection for one-and-a-half decades. "Lotus in the lakes is at risk of extinction," acting chair of Begnas Lake Women Group Durga Devi Adhikari said. The plant is extensively used to cure jaundice.

Three Nepali climbers summit Mt. Lubuche

Three Nepalis have successfully summited Mount Lubuche in Solukhumbu. Lakpa Sherpa and Rinji Sherpa from Solududhkunda Municipality-10 and Binod Mani Rai from Thulung Dudhkoshi Gaunpalika-6 reached the peak of the 6,119-metre mountain at 10 AM on Thursday.

Insurance companies mobilise Rs. 40bn premium

Insurance companies in Nepal have mobilised Rs. 39.9 billion premium in the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2020/21. According to the Nepal Insurance Board, 39 life and non-life insurance companies have mobilised the amount in the first three months of the current fiscal year. There are 19 life and 20 non-life insurance and one reinsurance companies in Nepal. They are selling various insurance products, including life, education, health, travel, fire and many other term insurance.

DoA grants approval for reconstruction of Vishworoop temple 

The Department of Archaeology (DoA) has approved the drawing design for reconstruction of the Vishworoop temple in the Pashupati area. The temple was damaged by the April 25, 2015 Gorkha Earthquake.
