Kathmandu, Dec. 13: A total of 3,508 votes have been cast in the voting that took place to elect a new leadership of the ruling Nepali Congress party under its 14th General Convention. The 3,508 votes were cast in the polling which started at 12 noon and ended at 7:45 pm.
There are 487 candidates vying for 132 posts of office-bearers of the party's leadership. Arrangements had been made for voting to take place in the City Hall and in Bhrikuti Mandap. According to the NC Central Election Committee, 1,100 votes have been cast in the City Hall and 2,408 in the Bhrikuti Mandap centre.
Congress leader Kul Bahadur Gurung had cast the first vote. According to the Congress statute, out of the 167-member working committee, 134 posts will be elected and the remaining 33 members will be nominated by the central president.
The official number of delegates to the 14th General Convention was 4,743.
