Landslide washes away houses, displaces 27 families in Lamjung  

Two houses were swept away by a landslide triggered by incessant rainfall at Madhya Nepal Municipality-6 in the district this morning. Devi Kunwar and Bam Bahadur Kunwar lost their homes to the disaster, said a local Ram Chandra Poudel.

Fear of locust grows as new group arrives in Dang

Locust swarms entered Nepal again on Sunday, further worrying the farmers. A group of locusts has been seen in Gadhuwa Rural Municipality of Dang district this morning, said Ram Krishna Subedi, information officer of Plant Quarantine and Pest Management Centre. Earlier, locust swarms had entered Nepal on June 28, which have almost disappeared without causing any significant damage to the crops.

COVID-19 has its toll on already serious problem of low capital expenses

The tradition to ramming up the mobilisation of capital budget in the last three months of the fiscal year has proven costly for the economy of the country this year. Only 38 per cent of the total capital budget has been mobilised till Friday, with just four days of the current fiscal year 2019/20 remaining. In monetary terms, it is just Rs. 151.5 billion out of Rs. 408 billion development budget. In July 11 last year, the capital expenditure was about 59 per cent.

Rain disaster toll reaches 42 with 17 missing

Death toll from floods and landslides in several parts of the country following heavy rains for days has reached 42 with 19 more cases of death on Saturday. According to National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, on Saturday alone the rescue teams have recovered additional 19 bodies, mainly from Myagdi and Jajarkot districts.

23 die, 36 go missing in floods, landslides

Twenty-three people died, 36 went missing and 26 others sustained injuries in the flash floods and landslides triggered by torrential monsoon rains in several districts on Friday. According to Chief Executive Officer of National Disaster Risk Reduction Authority (NDRRA) Anil Pokhrel, nine districts were affected by landslides and floods. They include Sindhupalchowk, Myagdi, Lamjung, Kaski, Rukum (West), Tanahun, Jajarkot, Dolakha and Gulmi.

Govt is with people during this crisis: PM

Quarantines set up in schools worry teachers, employees

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the government has set up quarantine and isolation facilities at the community schools across the country to accommodate people who arrived home from the COVid-19 affected countries. Around 4,500 community schools are used as quarantine facilities across the country. But these facilities were established by ignoring its psychological impact on the teachers and staff members, who are compelled to attend the school regularly.
