Kathmandu, July 12: Death toll from floods and landslides in several parts of the country following heavy rains for days has reached 42 with 19 more cases of death on Saturday.
According to National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, on Saturday alone the rescue teams have recovered additional 19 bodies, mainly from Myagdi and Jajarkot districts.
On Friday, the NEOC had informed that 23 people had been killed from landslides and floods with 36 missing cases.
According to disaster focal person and Joint Secretary at Ministry of Home Affairs, Indu Ghimire, 17 bodies were recovered from the massive landslide that occurred in Myagdi on early Friday.
On Friday, only three bodies were recovered from Myagdi
landslides that occurred in Dhaulagiri and Malika Gaunpalikas with 31 missing cases.
Still, 11 people have been missing in the landslides of Myagdi, according to the statement issued by the NEOC Saturday evening at 6:00 pm.
Two additional bodies were also recovered from landslide that occurred at Barekot Gaunaplika-4 of Sarkigaun in Jajarkot district on Saturday.
On Friday, seven bodies were recovered from the landslide in Jajarkot with five missing cases. With the recovery of two bodies today,
now the missing cases have been reduced to three.
According to Joint Secretary Ghimire, 17 people are still missing in the floods and landslides cases as of the records of Saturday evening.
Twelve persons got injured in different natural disasters as of Saturday evening.
She said 49 households, who had been rendered homeless due to landslides at Dordi Gaunaplika-6 and Pokharakalchekuna of Lamjung district, were rehabilitated in safe place in coordination of local administration on Saturday.
Likewise, 300 households of Ishanath Municipality-1 in Rautahat district have also been evacuated to safe places following floods in the local river on Saturday.
Similarly, an individual was missing and another one got injured in landslides at Larcha in Bhotekoshi Gaunpalika-2 and 3 in Tatopani of Sindhupalchowk district, Saturday, according to the NEOC update.
