KMC distributes prize to winners of Medipuzzle

The Department of Pharmacology at Kathmandu Medical College has distributed prizes to the winners of the All Nepal Inter-College Pharmacology Quiz Competition organised via online app. The competition was organised via app-based platform called Medipuzzle which is available in both android and IOS platforms. This is the very first time that a nationwide competition was virtually organised in the field of medical education, said the organiser in a statement on Sunday.

Cinema halls reopen

Cinema halls in Kathmandu, which were closed after the third wave of COVID-19 pandemic hit the country, reopened on Sunday. The cinema halls have come into operation since Sunday after the district administration offices gave permission to open them by abiding by health protocols. With the opening of cinema halls, the films whose screening was previously halted because of closure of the halls were re-released.

71% people in Humla receive COVID-19 vaccines

Around 71 per cent of people have received vaccine against COVID-19 in Humla district. One month earlier, the figure was 49 per cent. Most of the people get vaccinated after the vaccination card was made mandatory for the service providing public offices. According to Prem Bahadur Singh, chief at the Health Service Office, a total of 41,000 people are to be vaccinated in the district. Among them, 29,266 people have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Number of voters reaches 17.9 million

The Election Commission of Nepal (ECN) has decided to make the day before the upcoming local elections as the cut-off date for the young voters to complete their 18 years of age in order to make them eligible for voting the next day. This means any Nepali citizen completing 18 years of age on May 12 can vote in the local level elections slated for the next day, May 13, 2022.

Chinese national held with 4.8 kg gold

The Metropolitan Police Airport Security Office (MPASO) arrested a Chinese national with 4,840 gram gold from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Saturday. The Chinese national has been identified as 36-year-old Zhang Li. He had arrived in Kathmandu via Himalaya Airlines from Dubai. Li was arrested from the Welcome Gate of the TIA. He had passed undetected from the customs checking.

Import of rose declines

Imports of rose from India has declined this year. Imports of rose have dropped by almost half this year compared to last year. According to the Bhairahawa Customs Office, red rose worth Rs. 1.5 million has been imported till mid-January of the current fiscal year. In the same period last year, red rose worth Rs 2.9 million was imported from the Bhairahawa border.
