India’s Harnaaz Sandhu crowned Miss Universe

Harnaaz Sandhu of India was crowned the 70th Miss Universe on Sunday, topping a field of some 80 contestants in a pageant that was touched by politics and the pandemic. The previously reigning Miss Universe, Andrea Meza of Mexico, crowned her successor, a Bollywood actress, in the Israeli Red Sea resort town of Eilat. The pageant was held in the middle of the night, wrapping up at 5 a.m. local time (10 p.m. EST) to accommodate the primetime schedule in the U.S.

Sugar mills ready to crush canes

Indushankar Sugar Mill in Hariwan of Sarlahi worshiped the machine on Monday to begin crushing sugarcane. Yoganarayan Rajak, manager of the mill, said that machine was worshipped at an auspicious hour to run the mill smoothly in the current season. According to him, the machine was worshiped at 11 am on Monday morning.

NEPSE continues to diminish, index drops below 2,300 points

The benchmark of the stock market, NEPSE, also declined significantly on Monday, the second transaction day of the week. The NEPSE index has fallen below 2,300 points with the continuous decline of high points. The index, which declined by 88.73 points on Sunday, declined further by 79.57 points (3.37 per cent) to close at 2,281.67 points today. With the fluctuation of NEPSE index, it dropped to 2,281 points today. The NEPSE index had set a high record of 3,199.03 points on August 18.
