Prisoners around the world have been forgotten during the COVID-19 pandemic, as prisons have faced systemic challenges to prevent the spread of the virus, with control measures leading to serious human rights violations, the Amnesty International said in its new report, Forgotten Behind Bars: COVID-19 and Prisons.

Paddy cooperative earns millions  

The farmers of Kamalpur, who used to spend their leisure time in open space of the village, started keeping a small amount of paddy at home. As the number of farmers increased, each of 80 farmers has started keeping 25 kg seeds at their homes. Later, 50 kg of paddy was kept.

Every year the skill of weaving cotton fabrics and various other commodities is imparted to 35 selected inmates. Very often than not the ones selected have long prison sentences. 35 people are taught between July-August to December-January and 15 others are taught between January-February to June-July. 

Four dead in jeep accident in Sindhuli, seven injured

The injured have been undergoing treatment in hospitals in Sindhuli and Dhulikehl. The jeep with registration no. Ba 17 Cha 1117 veered off the road some 50 meters down, according to the police. Of the injured, two are in critical conditions, according to Manoj Kumar Lama, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the district police office, Sindhuli.

Experts point out carelessness in handling recovered uranium, warn of health hazards

Vehicles crush 354 wild animals of Banke National Park in seven years

The highway goes through the national park so many wildlife are caught in an accident while crossing the road, said Shyam Kumar Shah, chief conservation officer of the Banke National Park, adding that the 40 kilometers per hour speed limit have been enforced with an aim to reduce such casualties.

Tharu museum opened in Sunsari

A Tharu museum has been established in Sunsari with the aim of protecting the community’s art, culture and customs. The museum, named Indigenous Nationalities Museum, has been set up at Shivanagar, Ramdhuni Municipality–2, to reflect the overall identity of the indigenous Tharu community of the district.
