By Shiva Kumari Kashi, Hetauda, Feb. 16: A school located in the remote area of Makawanpur has distributed warm clothes to its students by running a campaign through the social network site Facebook.

As many as 250 students of Bageshowari lower secondary school located at Kairang, Rakshiranga Rural municipality-9 received warm clothes through the initiation of the school.

Rajan Malla, the chairperson of the School Management Committee, had shared through Facebook about the difficulties of students that were compelled to study in this chilly winter without any warm clothes on their body.

Bhim Upadhaya, a former secretary of the government, brought light on the matter saying that all children should be able to study in a conducive situation and environment and urged for extending assistance to the students. Upadhaya's urge drew the attention of many people and thus the students were able to receive financial as well as other forms of support.

A total of Rs. 175,000 was collected on the official bank account of the school. From that money, we bought tracks and trousers for students, said chairman Malla, adding "After posting this vulnerable situation of students, 61 national and international donors provided us with financial and non-financial support."

With the proper usage of Facebook, we became able to provide support in form of warm clothes to our students, said the chair of the school management committee.

The majority of Chepang, Tamang, Thakuri, and so-called Dalit people reside in this remote village and have been leading a life of hardship and deprivation.

With the extension of road services to this Kirang village, people have been able to get access to education, health, and communication. It used to take 10 hrs. to reach the village on foot from the east-west highway.
