Tanahun, Mar. 30: Actor Paul Shah, who has been remanded in custody for trial on charge of raping a minor, has filed a petition in the Pokhara High Court seeking release on bail.
The lawyers of the actor lodged the petition against the order of District Court Tanahun on Tuesday. According to Kamala Mohan Wagle, senior advocate of Paul, the petitioner has demanded that he should be released on bail. According to Wagle, the petition was filed under Section 73 (9) of the Code of Criminal Procedure 2074 BS.
Advocate Wagle informed that a preliminary hearing on the petition will begin on Wednesday.
On March 24, an order of the Tanahun District Court had remanded the actor in the custody for trial. On the fifth day of his detention, the actor’s lawyers reached the Pokhara High Court.
Deputy Registrar and Information Officer of the court Bishnu Prasad Acharya informed that Paul’s application was registered.
The minor had lodged a complaint against the actor at the Tanahun Police Station on February 23 alleging that he had repeatedly raped her during shooting of a music video.
The case was registered by Public procurator Office Tanahun against the actor in the Tanahun District Court on March 22 demanding jail sentence of 12 to 14 years to Paul and compensation to the victim.
The District Police Office, Tanahun, had completed the investigation and submitted the report along with its opinion to the Public Prosecutor’s Office on Monday. The East Nawalparasi District Public Prosecutor's Office has also registered a case against Paul demanding a jail term of 12 to 14 years.
The victim had filed rape charges in Tanahun Police and Gaidakot Police alleging that the actor had repeatedly raped the minor during the video shooting of a song.
