Exciting Adventure
Mountain climbing has come a long way. The people of the yesteryears had a tough time accomplishing it; however, it is not the case now. It is still challenging but not as it used to be. The modern-day equipment and technology have made it a bit safer. Mountain climbing is one of the most adventurous sports which give an adrenaline rush like never before. People find solace and pleasure in this activity. Furthermore, it is also a great activity to rejuvenate oneself. Mountain climbing is an expedition that brings you closer to nature and helps you connect with it closely.
Furthermore, a person who decides to do mountain climbing has overcome his fear. It is an activity that teaches a lot about facing challenges and overcoming our fears. It also makes us fitter both mentally and physically. It can be easy for those who have tried it to come out as better people through this experience.
Above all, people also take up mountain climbing to set new records or break the older ones. But it is safe to say that most of them do it for the thrill of the experience and doing something adventurous. It does pose quite a threat to the person that does not stop pursuing it. It is because the excitement one gets here will not be able to find anywhere else.
Challenging Experiences
People have also found mountains to be their true calling. However, they are quite challenging as well. You may have noticed that people aim for the highest peaks to conquer solely for victory and experience. We know that nearly every mountain around the world has conquered. Here is the story of the first climb on the world's highest mountain.
In 1953, a ninth British expedition, led by John Hunt and organized and financed by the Joint Himalayan Committee, returned to Nepal. Hunt planned for three assaults of two climbers each, including "a third and last attempt" if necessary, after a delay of some days.
After Wilfrid Noyce and Annullu had forced a passage to the South Col, two climbing pairs previously selected by Hunt attempted to reach the summit. Charles Evans and Tom Bourdillon brought closed-circuit oxygen sets and achieved the first ascent of the 8,750 m (28,700 ft) South Summit, within as little as 100 m (300 ft) of the final summit, but could go no further because of oxygen equipment problems and lack of time.
Two days later, then the second attempt with the fittest and most determined climbing pair. They used conventional open-circuit oxygen sets. Later, the summit was eventually reached at 11:30 am local time on May 29, 1953, by New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, a Nepali, climbing the South Col route.
After reaching the summit, Hillary said that he would take photographs without his oxygen set on and that he was rather clumsy-fingered and slow-moving. They buried a few sweets and a small cross in the snow before descending. Although they characterized it as the culmination of a team effort by the whole expedition, there was intense public speculation as to which of the pair had set foot on the summit first. In 1955 Tenzing disclosed in his autobiography that it was Hillary. News of the expedition's success reached London on the morning of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation.
Times reporter James Morris was sent a coded message by the runner to Namche Bazaar, where a wireless transmitter relayed the message to London. The conquest of Everest was probably the last major news item to be delivered to the world by the runner. They returned to Kathmandu a few days later.
Junko Tabei was a Japanese mountaineer, an author, and a teacher. She was the first woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest and the first woman to ascend the Seven Summits, climbing the highest peak on every continent. Ang Rita Sherpa was a Nepali mountaineer who climbed Mount Everest ten times without the use of supplemental oxygen between 1983 and 1996. His sixth climb set the world record for the most successful ascent of Mount Everest, which he re-set on his tenth climb.
Pasang Lhamu Sherpa was the first Nepalese woman to climb the summit of Mount Everest.
One of the most dangerous things to do is mountain climbing. One needs to have a lot of courage and endurance powers to be able to accomplish this challenging task. It is a life-risking experience as one faces a lot of challenges while doing it.
Troubles
Firstly, you face breathing troubles as the air becomes thinner the higher you go. After that, there is always the risk of falling or slipping off. Plus, the climber suffers from frostbite where their toes and fingers get numb. One must also possess good decision-making skills and know-how to use the map correctly.
In addition, people also have to scale steep rock faces. There is also the risk of slipping on wet rocks. Subsequently, the extra clothing and equipment they have to carry on their backs make their climb more challenging and riskier. So they have to be careful about this sport and do not do it without a guide or training. Also, the area can be much more dangerous when it is crowded.
