By Our Correspondent, Dhangadhi, Dec. 18: Commission on Resolving Land-related Problems reached an agreement with the authorities of concerned local levels to provide land ownership documents to landless squatters of 17 local levels of Sudurpashchim Province.
In a programme held on Thursday, the commission decided to offer the said ownership papers to nine local municipalities in Kailali, seven in Kanchanpur and one in Baitadi.
The landless squatters who have been residing at government-owned land for the past 10 years, will now be made the land owners following the agreement.
According to Devi Gyawali, commission’s Chairperson, the commission has been proactive in its attempt to address the problems facing the landless. Stating that the constitution has mentioned the rights of land to the Dalits, oppressed and landless people as a fundamental right, Gyawali said that no one should be deprived of exercising the rights guaranteed by the constitution. Chairperson Gyawali also urged the concerned bodies to extend their support to the commission.
Speaking at the programme, Trilochan Bhatta, Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province, said, “The provincial government is supportive of federal government’s initiative to lawfully secure resources for the hitherto landless.”
