By Mahima Devkota, Kathmandu, Feb. 10: Chairman of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Prachanda-Nepal faction, Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', today expressed optimism that the Supreme Court (SC) would deliver verdict in favour of constitution and democracy in time.

Chairman Prachanda said so while addressing a mass gathering organised to protest the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR).

"I am optimistic that the Supreme Court will make verdict in favour of constitution and democracy in time. The rallies today must have sent a message to all that any step taken against the letter and spirit of the constitution and the people's aspirations will simply be unfortunate," said Prachanda, the former Prime Minister.

He reiterated firm commitment to peaceful politics and values of multiparty competition, independent judiciary and rule of law. "Peaceful demonstrations against the undemocratic and anti-constitutional step of HoR dissolution may turn into revolt and then into green revolution in case the unconstitutional step is approved."

The former Prime Minister appealed to all the constitutional bodies to take decisions as per the constitution and their fair discretion.

He said the demonstration was not for premiership or any chair of the ministry. "Let me express my commitment here. My remaining life will be devoted to the nation's prosperity, not for any power as such."

The NCP Chairman said that the present constitution was promulgated learning lessons of political instability and many other faults from the previous constitutions since 1948. "It took over seven decades to make a proper constitution, but the PM brought it down with a single action of dissolving the HoR, which has broken the spirit of the constitutionality, stability and progression of the country and has invited anarchy."

He said that the demonstration was for federalism, inclusiveness and equality that has been dragged down by the untoward action of the PM.

If the situation demands a million people will encircle the Singha Durbar and Baluwatar, he said.

He urged all the other political parties including Nepali Congress to come up for a joint protest programme against HoR dissolution. "We are ready to go hand in hand with you all for democracy, constitution and republican set up."

The NCP Chairman challenged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to first start archaeological excavation to prove Ayodhya was in Madi of Chitwan and then start the project of building temples there. "I will be the happiest person to see the promotion of the religious tourism in my constituency but the PM has taken not a single step to start archaeological investigation in the purposed area. It is his drama only."

Another Chairman of the NCP, (Prachanda- Nepal faction), Madhav Kumar Nepal said that the demonstration was against the unconstitutional and undemocratic move which has jeopardized political stability in the country.

"We brought the inclusiveness and made the country a republic country but now it has turned into ‘unconstitutional. So we will continue the protest till the justice gets served," he said.

Likewise, Jalanath Khanal, senior leader, said that the faction was the official NCP.

He said that the demonstrations were not against KP Oli as an individual but an attitude and his unconstitutional move and untoward action.

Similarly, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, NCP spokesperson, said that the battle carried three goals and one aim. Of the three goals are to stand against regression, cancel the recent appointment in constitutional bodies and to force the PM to resign as he is not Member of Parliament, he said.

Shrestha said that the rallies aim to protect the constitution and democracy of the country.

Similarly, Amrita Thapa, an NCP leader, dissolved the HoR although he was always supported to take any progressive step by the party. "He did not want any progressive steps, but only regression and power."

Ram Kumari Jhankri, an influential NCP youth leader, viewed that republican set up was attacked by the PM's unconstitutional move to dissolve the HoR.

Anajana Bishankhe, another NCP leader, said that the idea of federation, equality and the proportional system was all attacked by the unconstitutional move of the PM.

Mahaful Ansari, another leader, condemned all the settings against people's aspirations.
