Kathmandu, Mar. 30: Former Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand has been feted on the occasion of his 84th birthday.
Nepali Literature and Culture Foundation, Kailali, honoured leader Chand for his contribution to social upliftment through literature by awarding him the Maniram Bagmaya Prize of the Nepali year of 2075 on Tuesday. The Prize carries a purse of Rs. 100,000 Similarly, author Dr. Tulasi Bhattarai was given the Maniram Bagmaya Prize of the year 2076.
Meanwhile, former minister Deepak Prasad Baskota was awarded the Godawari Talent Prize; Lucky Chaudhary, journalist at the online department of Gorkhapatra Corporation, was given the Khadga Bahadur Talent Prize and Professor Dr. Ram Chandra Bhatta and Bharat Raj Poudel won the Shastri Devraj Acharya Prize for the years 2075 and 2076 respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Ganga Prasad Upreti, Chancellor of Nepal Academy, said former heads of government Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala and Lokendra Bahadur Chand had been able to take both politics and literature forward.
On the occasion, ‘Suneko Chin ra Dekhepachi’ a book wriiten by Dr. Tulasi Bhattarai was launched.
