By Our Correspondent, Lamjung, Feb. 8: Nepali Army and Police have helped the locals in the Himalayan district of Manang to remove the snow piled up on the roads. Several areas in Manang received two-feet deep snow on Friday and Saturday. That crippled normal life in the district.

Officials reported that the snowfall that lasted for two days blanketed most of the human settlements in the district.   Manang witnessed snowfall throughout Friday (February 5) and for three hours on Saturday afternoon.

Chief District Officer Bishnu Lamichhane said that they had cleared the snow piled up in a three-km stretch of the road.

According to Deputy Superintendent Police Subash Khadka, the road connecting the government offices in Chame, the district headquarters, to the market, along with the suspension bridge had been cleaned to ease transportation in the area. The task was carried out by using shovels. The clean-up that began on Saturday noon lasted until Sunday morning.

However, vehicles have been off the road after the snowfall. Tourists are forced to walk risking their lives because of the obstructed footpaths. Chief District Officer Lamichhane shared that the transportation would resume in a couple of days after the snow gets melted.

The officials in cooperation with the army and police personnel were also successful in removing snow collected on the premises of Lok Priya Secondary School, helping the school administration resume its classes today.
