Financial sector feels prohibitory order as deposit, credit flow slumps  

The deposit of the BFIs rose only by Rs. 8 billion while the credit flow rose by Rs. 43 billion in the given period. Rise of deposit in BFIs in the preceding period from mid-March to mid-April was Rs. 120 billion while the rise in credit flow in this period was Rs. 167 billion.

Taplejung farmers attracted to coffee farming

Farmers in western part of Taplejung district were busy with professional coffee farming. Mostly the farmers in Aathraii, Tribeni and Mauwakhola Rural Municipalities have already begun coffee farming.  Farmers were attracted towards coffee farming as they saw huge profit on this cash crop. “Market demand for coffee is increasing nowadays and we are interested in making earnings through its commercial farming,” a farmer Chandra Tamang said.

Global recovery strong, but uneven: WB

Solukhumbu unable to utilise tourism royalty

The District Coordination Committee (DCC) of Solukhumbu has not been able to spend Rs. 220 million it earned from tourism royalties six years ago. The then District Development Committee had earned Rs. 400 million in the fiscal year 2015/16 from its 30 per cent share of the total mountaineering fees collected from tourists. Of that amount, Rs. 220 million still remains unspent.

Neck blast leaves Jhapa paddy farmers nervous

Farmers in Kamal Rural Municipality of Jhapa and southern part of Damak have been worried due to neck blast disease. According to the farmers, the disease is caused by the fungus when the paddy is ripening. In Jhapa, there is a problem of neck blast disease every year. It can affect all above-ground parts of a rice plant--leaf, collar, node, neck, parts of panicle, and sometimes leaf sheath.

NRB approval not mandatory for foreign investment

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has unveiled ‘NRB Foreign Direct Investment and Loan Management Bylaw, 2078’ Tuesday. Through the bylaw, NRB has facilitated the inflow of foreign investment without the approval of the central bank. As per the bylaw, it will not be mandatory for the foreign investor to obtain prior approval from the NRB to send or remit foreign currency to Nepal after obtaining foreign investment approval from the foreign investment sanctioning body.

Unique water-maize sown in Chichila of Sankhuwasabha

Head of the Agriculture Knowledge Center of Shankhuwasabha, Govinda Acharya, said that he has heard about this maize for the first time. Acharya said that the sample of the maize has been collected for the study.

‘Zero tillage’ used for maize cultivation in Jhapa

Maize has been cultivated commercially using 'Zero Tillage' technology for the first time in Jhapa. Farmer of Kankai Municipality Khagendra Silwal has planted maize using this technology for testing under the Prime Minister's Agriculture Modernisation Project.

NOC to construct LP Gas Bottling Plants

Spokesperson of the NOC, Binitmani Upadhyay, informed that plants will be constructed in Province 2 and Charali of Jhapa district in Province 1. The NOC has informed that a technical report is being prepared by appointing a consultant.

China's foreign trade up 28.2 pct in Jan.-May

China's total imports and exports expanded 28.2 percent year on year to reach 14.76 trillion yuan (about 2.31 trillion U.S. dollars) in the first five months of 2021, official data showed Monday.
