Dhan Bahadur Gurung is a Basuri (bamboo flute) teacher and Basuri maker. In his 15 years’ stint as a teacher of the instrument, he has delivered this art to thousands of students. But he says that only a handful of his students have become top class Basuri players. Born in Harmi of Gorkha district in 2041 BS, Gurung has a Bachelor’s Degree in Basuri from Ilahabad University in India. He was inspired to play Basuri by his elder brother Resham Gurung.

Construction of Shahid Gate in final stage in Province 2

The construction of Shahid Gate in Janakpurdham, the temporary capital of Province 2, has reached the final stage. Only finishing and decoration tasks remain now. Umesh Sah, operator of Mahato Construction, said that they were busy giving finishing touch to the gate. “We are paining the bow-shaped gate and placing some statue on it now,” he said.
