Gurung People Celebrating Tamu Lhosar

The Gurung community on Thursday is marking ‘Tamu Lhosar’ as their New Year by organising various programmes across the country, including Kathmandu.  The Gurungs mark Tamu Lhosar as their New Year on Poush 15 every year. In the Gurung language,’Lho’ stands for class and ‘Sar’ for change. The government has also announced a public holiday across the country on the occasion of the festival.

Disabled people need more voter awareness materials

Various stakeholders have said that the Election Commission of Nepal (ECN) needs to develop inclusive and accessible voter education materials targeting persons with all types of disabilities to ensure the rights of voters in election. Speaking at a programme organised to launch the research report on Wednesday, they said the multiple challenges the persons with disabilities face in the process of receiving voter education need to be addressed by concerned stakeholders.

Nepali film Kathaputali is being released across the country on Friday (December 31). Amidst the COVID- 19 pandemic and the dominance of foreign films like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Pushpa in local cinemas, producers of the periodic horror genera film have dared to release their Kathaputali. The team of Kathaputali in a press meet organised here on Tuesday informed that the movie was a story of Nepali original mysticism.

50-bed new building constructed at Baitadi Hospital

The District Hospital Baitadi has completed the construction of a 50-bed new building. The building was constructed at a cost of Rs. 26 million. The oxygen plant is also being set up at the newly constructed building. The building was constructed with the initiative of federal government and the oxygen plant was installed by the federal government, said Dr. Basanta Raj Joshi, medical superintendent of the hospital.

844 cases of violence against women reported in five months

Violence against women and girls continues to occur in Nepal despite strict law in place, according to the latest data of the Women Rehabilitation Center (WOREC). In five months, from mid-July to mid-December, as many as 844 cases of violence against women and girls were reported from all over the country, the report shows. Out of the total reported cases, 475 (56 per cent) cases were of domestic violence.
