Kathmandu, Dec. 29: An art exhibition focusing on social transformation has begun at Nepal Academy in Kamaladi. Art works of about two dozen artists are put on the display.
The five-day exhibition has been organised on the occasion of the 8th National General Convention of the CPN (Maoist Centre).
The exhibition features art works on republic set up, livelihood, labour, financial capitalism and its effects, agricultural revolution, social justice and a society without discrimination.
Artists like Julumlal Chitrakar, Narada Mani Hartamchhali, Lalman Lama, SC Suman, Devendra Thumkeli, Keshav Raj Khanal, Palsangmo Lama, Kaman Singh Lama, Pradeep Adhikari, Rabindra Shrestha, Rajkumar Rana Magar, Rajkumar Khadka, Liladhar KC, Amar Pariyar, Amir Shakya and Khem BK have displayed their works in the exhibition.
The exhibition, organised by the Akhil Nepal Fine Arts Association, envisions a socialist-oriented Nepali society.
Central President of the Association Palsangmo Lama said that the art exhibition was organised coinciding the Maoist Centre’s general convention to depict various dimensions of Nepali society.
Lama informed that the exhibition features works of art reflecting various dimensions of Terai, hills and mountains.
He said that the art exhibition would prove to be a cornerstone for the socialist journey of Nepal in terms of art.
Chairman of the Nepal Fine Arts Journalists Society Keshav Raj Khanal said that it was the first art exhibition on the subject of socialism in Nepal.
He said that the artists have succeeded in presenting the issues of political direction and change through their art works.
The artists have shown contemporary issues of social change and social justice in the traditional Thanka and Paubha style.
The main attraction of the exhibition is the painting prepared by veteran Thanka artist Lal Man Lama under the title Ujyalo Yatra.
Jigme Lama, an artist from Mugu, said that the exhibition depicted the Himalayan landscape and society in the style of Mughalis.
He said that the Maoists had done a good job by giving an opportunity to the artists to exhibit their art works at the party’s general convention.
