Kathmandu, Feb 5: Senior Vice Chairperson of CPN UML Ishwor Pokharel has demanded immediate announcement of the local level election. Pokharel even warned of an agitation if the date for the local level election was not announced soon.

Senior Vice Chairperson Pokharel said it during a programme organized on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of Press Chautari Nepal, a sister wing of the party. "Even the journalists should write for the importance of the local-level election," he said, adding that time had come to usher the country into economic development and prosperity.

He reminded that the UML had directed for holding the general convention of all sister wings of the party.

On the occasion, Deputy Chief of UML Publicity Department Bishnu Rijal also viewed that government should announce the local level election as per the constitution.

It was worrying that working journalists were not getting remuneration. So, time had come to watch the media houses, he stressed.

Similarly, the Chairperson of Press Council Nepal Bal Krishna Basnet viewed the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) should probe into the activities of the journalists.

FNJ Senior Vice Chairperson Ramesh Bista, however, said FNJ was working untiringly for the rights of journalists.
