By Asha Shah, Kathmandu, May 4: The, “remdesivir,” which is widely used for the treatment of the COVID-19 infection has arrived today from Bangladesh.
Santosh KC, information officer of the Department of Drug Administration (DDA) informed Gorkhapatra Online that 7,000 doses of medicines, which were to arrive yesterday had arrived in Nepal today.
KC said, “Demand for the ‘remdesivir,’has been on rising lately following the surge in COVID-19 cases. So, 7,000 doses of medicine have been brought to Nepal from Bangladesh as per the demand.”
He also said that some amount of medicine will arrive in Nepal tomorrow as well.
“The medicine has arrived in Nepal and will be distributed within two hours,” he added.
He further said that preparations are being made to send the medicine to hospitals treating COVID-19 patients.
Spokesperson KC replied that the ‘remdesivir,’ was brought on the initiative of an official importer on the question about whose initiative it was to bring the doses.
There has been a shortage of remdesivir, in the market for some time now with the surge in COVID-19 patients. The doses of remdesivir will be administered considering the state of the patients.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has intensified diplomatic efforts to procure jabs from China, Russia, and the United States after the delay in getting the vaccine against COVID-19 from India.
In his address to the nation on Monday, Prime Minister Oli said that the government has already started the process of procuring the necessary vaccines at the earliest.
Prime Minister Oli said that the government was making efforts to bring enough vaccines as soon as possible through continuous liaison and coordination with China, Russia, and other vaccine-producing countries and COVAX.
