Siraha, Sept. 22: The Siraha District Police Office arrested 38-year-old Harihar Devi Mahara on charge of plotting to murder her 39-year-old husband Dukharan Mahara with the help of her lover.
On September 3, Dukharan was found dead in a canal at Barahi Village in Jaynagar, India. He had gone to India for treatment with his wife Harihar Devi on September 2.
Harihar Devi had arrived in her house at Ward 4 of Golbazaar Municipality of Siraha on September 3.

The Siraha District Police was informed by the Indian counterparts after they found the body of Dukharan Mahara. When the police began an investigation in coordination with the Indian Police, they found the involvement of Harihar Devi in Mahara’s murder.
Police also arrested the lover of Harihar Devi and two Indian nationals. The lover has been identified as 26-year-old Mukesh Yadav, who is also an Indian national.

"Mukesh worked as an ambulance driver in India and had come in contact with Harihar Devi two years ago. Harihar Devi had gone to India for hysterectomy - a surgical procedure to remove the uterus - at the hospital where Mukesh worked. The duo's affair started from there," said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Subhash Budhathoki.

DSP Budhathoki, who is also the spokesperson for Siraha District Police, informed that Harihar Devi had been in constant dispute with her husband over poor financial condition.
Dukharan had gone overseas as a migrant worker a decade ago. Harihar Devi was not happy with her husband as she did not get sufficient money from him.

"The couple used to quarrel frequently after Dukharan returned home. He had been operating a grocery and furniture shop after returning to Nepal. Harihar Devi was dissatisfied and her relation with Mukesh culminated in the killing Dukharan," said DSP Budhathoki.
According to police, Harihar Devi was assured of having her husband murdered by Mukesh if she paid IRs. 100,000 when she informed her lover about the issues with Dukharan.

However, Harihar Devi bargained and made a deal at IRs. 60,000. She took the amount as loan from a local cooperative and asked Dukharan to accompany her to a hospital in Jaynagar, India.
Harihar Devi had faked a health issue and claimed the treatment was possible only in India.
"When the couple arrived at the Jaynagar Railway Station at around 6pm of September 2, they stopped for tea. It was then Mukesh came and took Dukharan on his motorcycle and killed him at a canal in Barahi Village," DSP Budhathoki said.

Mukesh was helped by two other hired Indian nationals and they killed Dukharan by slicing his neck.
The IRs. 60,000 was in Dukharan's pocket which Mukesh and others took after killing him.

"A joint investigation with the Indian Police helped us track the perpetrators behind the murder. Since Mukesh and two others are Indian nationals, they will face legal process from the Indian Police. We have remanded Harihar Devi for investigation and legal process has begun," said DSP Budhathoki.
