Kathmandu, Jan. 11: The country is observing the ‘National Unity Day’ on Monday. This is the 299th birth anniversary of the founder of modern Nepal, King Prithvi Narayan Shah, who began the national unification drive from a small hill-state Gorkha.
Nepal Army is celebrating the occasion with various programmes like sports and poem competition while various civil society organisations are also organising multitudes of programmes.
A unification march of the Nepal Army has also arrived in Kathmandu from Gorkha.
Every year, people throng the western gate of the Singha Durbar, the administrative centre of the country, to garland the statue of king Prithvi Naryan Shah, the unifier of Nepal.
