Myagde Rural Municipality’s Asal Buhari scheme

Tanahu, Mar. 10: Myagde Rural Municipality, in Tanahu, has felicitated its three daughters-in-law for taking good care of their elderly in-laws.
The municipality honoured them under the ‘Aasl Buhari Samman Programme’ who have been taking good care of their mothers-in-law and fathers-in-law.

Amid a function organised here on the occasion of 112th International Women’s Day on Tuesday, the municipality honoured the three daughters-in-law. They were honoured with a shawl and Karuwa (water vessel) Chairperson of the municipality Mayadevi Rana said that the programme was introduced to make the municipality free of abuse against elderly as well as to make the life of the elderlies there free of burden.

Chief administrative officer of the municipality Narayan Prasad Adhikari said Nandu Maya Thapa of Ward No. 7, Chandra Kumari Kumal of Ward No. 4 and Uma Sen of Ward No. 7 have been honoured this year.
According to him, Thapa and Adhikari had been taking good care of their disabled fathers-in-law for almost a decade, while Sen has been looking after her mother-in-law, who has been bedridden for the last five years.

Adhikari believed that such programmes would be effective in helping elderly people to live a dignified life with proper love, care and respect from their off-springs.
After being honoured, the awardees shared that they were happy and more encouraged to take proper care of and give love to their in-laws.
“I didn’t take care of my mother-in-law to receive this honour, but I am encouraged by the respect shown by the rural municipality,” said Sen.

Dr. Raghuraj Kafle, vice-chairman of Policy and Planning Commission of Gandaki Province said that a woman who can run a house well can also run the country well.
He also underscored the need to encourage women’s participation in all spheres of the state.
