Kathmandu, Feb. 10: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Padma Kumari Aryal inspected the Kalimati Fruit and Vegetable Market Tuesday morning.
She visited the vegetable market along with staffers of the ministry and acquired information about vegetables, fish, stall rent, price and stalls and overall market situation.
She directed the Kalimati Fruit and Vegetable Market Development Committee to be present at the ministry on February 13 to discuss the issues relating to the management of the stalls and sanitation work in the vegetable market.
Stating that it was necessary to manage the waste and stalls, Minister Aryal said that a conclusion would be reached immediately after holding a discussion with the market committee.
The ministry will make a direct link between the farmers and the market, she said, adding that an environment will be created to get a fair price for the farmers' hard work.
Minister Aryal said that the government would guarantee the market for the products to manage the market as it was necessary to make arrangements for the marketing of the products.
She said that the government would come up with a plan to promote production and create an environment where the products could get markets easily.
Stating that the government was working to keep fertilizer in the stock to resolve the recurring of problem of fertiliser shortage, she said that the farmers would not face a shortage of fertilisers in future.
She said, “Enough fertilsier will be required for wheat planting season now and we have already provided the needed fertilsiers to the farmers.”
She said that the ministry would take initiative to open a fish market at the Central Fisheries Promotion and Conservation Centre of Balaju to manage the market.
During the market monitoring, Minister Aryal said, "There is a challenge to increasing the production and promotion of goods produced in Nepal. Let's not talk about what happened in the past but think about organising the market and making the traders and farmers happy be eliminating the middlemen.”
