Kathmandu, Dec. 15: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Devendra Poudel has said that the government has instructed the local governments to provide remuneration to the teachers working in Early Child Development Centres (ECD) across the country.
Minister Poudel said that the government has directed the local governments to implement the issue of remuneration. He gave that instruction in the meeting with teachers’ federation.

"We have instructed the local governments to take strict action against the government's decision," he said.
He also informed that the Ministry has already instructed District Education and Coordination Unit (DECU) to monitor the local governments about the status of remuneration implementation. Minister Poudel informed that many local governments in the country have paid their salaries as per the government's decision.

However, many ECD teachers across the country are in protest stating that they did not get the minimum salary fixed by the government. It was mentioned that the minimum salary of school staff and child development teachers would be increased to Rs 15,000 and that the federal government would provide Rs. 7,000 and local governments the remaining budget.

But many local governments are denying paying salary for those teachers claiming that they have no internal sources to pay the increased salary. Minister Poudel further said that the government has been preparing to introduce Federal Education Act soon.
