Humla, Feb. 14: The agriculture division of Kharpunath Rural Municipality has started a programme to make it mandatory for each household to plant apples and walnuts. According to the rural municipality, the programme is aimed at promoting commercial fruit farming.
“As soon as we received apple and walnut saplings from Jumla, we initiated this programme making it compulsory for every household to plant them,” said rural municipality chair Karna Bahadur Rawal.
There are 1,400 households in the rural municipality and it is hoped that each of them will plant at least one apple and one walnut plant, he said.
Chief of the agriculture division Harka Bir Rawal said that the rural municipality was preparing to distribute the saplings free of cost in all the wards. He also informed that Kharpunath had 2,800 apple and walnut plants for distribution.
