Kathmandu, Dec. 21: Jyapu Samaj Yala celebrated, ‘Yomari Punhi’, the popular festival of Newar communities with various cultural programmes on Sunday.
Yomari Punhi is a Newari festival marking the end of the rice harvest.
Since two decades, Jyapu Samaj Yala has been organising ‘Yomari Tyo Chi Tyo Punhi’.
Even in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic, like last year, this year too, the representatives of all 40 toles brought Kibwa (rice, yomori, fruits, and cash) from their respective areas and handed it to the delegates of Jyapu Society with cultural programmes like dancing and singing.
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhushal wished that the festival may bring wealth, health and prosperity.
In the programme presided over by Tirthalal Maharjan, Minister of Federal Affairs and General Administration Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Shashi Shrestha and Minister for Labour and Employment Krishna Kumar Shrestha also expressed their best wishes.
