Humla, Feb. 3: The foodgrains provided as grant by the Karnali Province government amid shortage in Humla have started arriving in the district.
The airplanes of Tara Air and Summit Air have started transporting the foodgrains from Surkhet.

“The two airlines have started transporting foodgrains to Humla from Tuesday night. The foodgrains were transported on Wednesday as well,” said Krishna Prasad Adhikari, section officer of Food Management and Trading Company (FMTC) in Humla.
Two months ago, Karnali Province Chief Minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi had announced to provide 200 quintals of foodgrains to the people of Humla district as grant.

With the provincial government taking care of transportation, the FMTC will oversee the distribution. The airlines charge Rs. 105 per kilogram for transporting foodgrains.
The provincial government is spending Rs. 2.1 million for the transportation of foodgrains from Surkhet to Humla.

Last year, Karnali Province had provided grant to transport 2,500 quintal foodgrains to Humla.
“The foodgrains will be distributed once the whole quantity arrives,” said Adhikari. Under the FMTC’s grant, Sita Air has also been transporting foodgrains worth 4,000 quintals from Nepalgunj and 6,000 quintals from Surkhet.
