Kathmandu, Dec. 2: The District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu, on Tuesday urged the public to not engage in any crowding activities in the name of organising protests, gathering, rallies and demonstrations owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Issuing a press release Tuesday morning, the DAO has warned that the group or individuals participating in rallies or gatherings during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic in Kathmandu would be taken legal actions according to the law.
Those crowding the streets or other public places with demands -- political or otherwise -- would be punished according to the Local Administration Act and the Infectious Diseases Act, reads the statement.
It will be very hard to bring the COVID-19 pandemic under control and the pandemic might even spiral out of control if people do not stop themselves from overcrowding in the places like the Kathmandu Valley, where more people live than any other places in the country and make their movements daily, said DAO, urging citizens to abide by all the safety measures taken by the government.
Lately, various groups and organisations, including the pro-Royalists groups, have been staging protests in Kathmandu.
Further, the DAO said that adhering to the safety protocols was critically important to mitigate the risk of coronavirus infection, and that it was the responsibility of the citizens to follow the standards set by the government.
