Kathmandu, Feb. 8: Cinema halls in Kathmandu, which were closed due to the third wave of COVID-19 on January 12, are opening from February 13.
A joint meeting of the Chief District Officers of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur districts on Sunday decided to allow the operation of film halls, night businesses, gym, dance bars and schools from coming Sunday on the recommendation of the COVID-19 Crisis Management Coordination Centre (CCMCC).
With the decision to open the film halls, filmmakers, specially, those whose films were being screened when the halls were shut, look encouraged.
General Secretary of the Nepal Motion Picture Association Ashok Sharma said that screening of films like Chapali Height-3 and Kathaputali will continue when the halls resume their businesses.
Director Nikesh Khadka’s film Chapali Height- 3 and director Veemsen Lama’s film Kathaputali were being screened when the government imposed the latest restriction.
Likewise, Spiderman-- No Way Home, Pushpa and Japanese superhero movie Anime were also being screened when the government decided to shut halls from January 12.
Arjun Kumar, producer of Chapali Height-3 said, “Our film was hit hard by COVID-19 pandemic and its show will resume from February 13, and I am hopeful that audience will support my film.”
Dozen other cinemas are in pipeline to release. Films like, Ma Yesto Geet Gaauchhu- 3, Lappan Chappan- 2, Prakash, Chiso Manchhe, Ye Mero Hajur- 4 and others are waiting for their release date.
