Damak, Mar. 21: Ward No. 3 of Gauriganj Rural Municipality, in Jhapa district, has provided bicycles to 52 students of public education institutions.
“The bicycles were provided to students of grade 11 of Gauriganj Multiple Campus and Gauriganj Secondary School,” said Makhana Mahato, ward chairman.
The bicycles were distributed to the bright students from low-income families.
“Many students from poor economic background usually discontinue study after grade 10. We hope that the bicycle will encourage them to continue their education,” said Mahato.
The ward office had allocated a budget of Rs. 510,000 for the purpose.
“Bicycle distribution campaign has inspired many students. We also expect an increase in the number of students in public academic institutions with the introduction of programmes like this, ”said Baburam Shrestha, chairman of the municipality.
