Kathmandu, Jan. 21: Dr. Bhola Thapa has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, in his capacity as the chancellor of the university, appointed Thapa to the post on Wednesday.
He was selected from among three candidates shortlisted by a search committee led by the Minister for Education, Science and Technology Krishna Gopal Shrestha.
In addition to Thapa, the committee had shortlisted incumbent Vice-Chancellor (VC) Ram Kantha Makaju and Professor Dr. Bal Chandra Luitel and recommended their names to the Prime Minister.
Thapa, a professor at the University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, replaces Makaju from Thursday and will serve for four years.
“I take this as a great responsibility and I shall strive to do my best in the position,” Thapa told The Rising Nepal. “I will build upon the foundation laid by my predecessors and our university’s founders and meet the aspirations of our faculty, staff, students, the community and national and international stakeholders.”
Thapa had earlier worked as Kathmandu University’s registrar from 2013 to 2017 when he resigned in protest to the working style of the then VC Makaju.
