Birtamod, Dec. 15: Security personnel of Nepal Police, who have to be on duty to provide security to the public and maintain peace and harmony in the society, have themselves been forced to work living in rickety office buildings.
Buildings of the Area Police Offices at Taghandubba and Kumarkhod of Jhapa Rural Municipality of Jhapa, which lie along Nepal-India southern border, may collapse at any time.
Police Sub-Inspector and In-Charge of the Area Police Office, Kumarkhod, Narayan Pradhan said that police personnel of these two Area Police Offices could not sleep the whole night for two days during the post-monsoon rain in Mid-October, 2021 as water leaked from the roof.

Pradhan said that even during the normal time, they could not stay for a long hour inside the rooms as concretes from the cracked roof continuously fall.
“How can we deliver security and perform our duty in a fearless way by staying inside such cracked building?” Pradhan said.

However, another building at Panthapada is comparatively in a good condition, he said.
The Area Police Office at Kumarkhod of Jhapa-2 was established in 1944. “We cannot even keep any detainee for a single night, fearing that the building could collapse at any time,” Pradhan said.
Raju Jung Bharati, ward chair of Jhapa Rural Municipality-4, said although the building was renovated 20 years ago, these buildings would now come into no use anymore.

New building of the Area Police Office, Kumarkhod is under construction. Although the deadline to complete the project expired in May 2020, the construction of the Area Police Office, Kumarkhod, had not completed yet.
