Banepa, Jan. 3: Six years and eight months after the Gorkha earthquake, only 83 per cent of the beneficiaries in Kavre have rebuilt their homes.
According to the District Project Implementation Unit (Buildings and Housing), only 65,876 out of 79,440 beneficiaries, who have been listed for reconstruction, have so far rebuilt their houses.
Chief Engineer of the unit Santosh Niraula said that 87.36 per cent of the beneficiaries have taken the second tranche after receiving the first installment of Rs. 50,000. Eighty-three per cent of the beneficiaries said that they have taken the third tranche after completing the reconstruction of their houses.
Of the first tranche, 77,152 beneficiaries received the grant from the Government of Nepal and 2,288 from non-governmental organizations, Niraula said.
Similarly, in the second tranche, 66,478 beneficiaries received the amount through the Government of Nepal and 2,881 received the amount through non-governmental organizations.
Similarly, 63,475 beneficiaries have received third tranche of the grants from the Government of Nepal and 2,401 from non-governmental organizations.
Engineer Niraula said that out of the 246 eligible individuals in the list of risky beneficiaries, 71 have been provided with the grant so far. He said that the grant amount has been provided to the beneficiaries who have not received the grant amount since last July.
He said that 93 per cent of the beneficiaries have rebuilt their houses in the Bhumlu Rural Municipality of the district so far.
He said that 25 technicians have been deployed in the villages as per the government’s proposal to complete the reconstruction work by April 8.
