Kathmandu, Dec. 10: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Tuesday praised the 13th South Asian Games hosted in Nepal citing the organisation of the regional sports fiesta in Nepal was historic and successful.
In a video address to the concluding ceremony of the SAG, the Prime Minister said this time the games had enhanced unity and friendship among the South Asian nations as per the general expectations of such events. “We organised more number of sports events, with more players and medals involved, than in the previous SAG. Overall, the SAG this time has become a more successful and historic.”
He expressed happiness over the successful conclusion of the events simultaneously organised in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Janakpur.
“This is a matter of extreme happiness,” he said. “We have succeeded to hold the South Asian Games by building the infrastructure devastated by the 2015 earthquake.”
Prime Minister Oli thanked and congratulated the governments and sports bodies, players and trainers of the participating nations for their contributions in making the games a huge success.
“I expect that the grand success of the games will contribute to the success of Visit Nepal Year 2020,” he said, while expressing the hope that the participants of the games from the friendly countries would contribute to the success of the Visit Nepal Year.
The Prime Minister thanked the Nepali players for their excellent performance in the host country, keeping friendship and sportsmanship at the center. “I congratulate players who have won the medals.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Ishwar Pokharel said that there would not be a situation in which the Nepali players face financial crisis.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the 13th SAG this evening DPM Pokharel also thanked all for making the event a grand success and congratulated all the players who won medals.
Likewise, Minister for Youth and Sports Jagat Bishwakarma and National Sports Council member secretary Ramesh Kumar Silwal also addressed the closing ceremony.
On the occasion MInsiter Bishwakarma handed over the SAG flag to Pakistan, which will be hosting the 14th edition of the SAG.
