By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Jan 13: A solitary goal from Darshan Gurung helped New Road Team (NRT) stun Nepal Police Club the on-going Martyr’s Memorial A Division League held at Dashrath Stadium, Kathmandu on Monday.
The victory took NRT to the sixth spot of the league with 8 points from 6 matches while NPC with an equal 8 points from 8 matches is at seventh spot on the goal difference.
Machhindra Football Club climbed to the top of the point table with 13 points from 6 matches and Saraswoti Youth Club stood at the bottom of the league standing with one point from 6 matches.
Meanwhile, Chyasal Youth Club hope of winning the league was shattered the team was held to a goalless draw by the Armed Police Force (APF) in the second match of the day.
Chyasal is now seven points behind the league leader Machhindra after the end of their sixth round match.
After the draw, Chyasal is at 10th position with 6 points from 6 matches and relegation threatened APF is at 11th spot with 5 points from 6 matches.
Darshan Gurung rescued NRT in the 76th minute by slamming home the winner from 6 yard box.
Both team had ended the first half in a goalless draw. The policemen put up a remarkable performance against NRT but they failed to score during the couple of wonderful chances.
Suman Lama failed to put up the policemen ahead in the match in the 37th minute as his powerful strike from the box was made a punching save by NRT goalie Ajit Prajapati.
The police team failed again to take the lead in the match as its player Man Bahadur Pariyar header from the box was saved brilliantly on the goal-line by NRT mid-fielder Arik Bista in the 47th minute.
Police man Anjan Rai failed to rescue his team from defeat as he failed to level the score in the dying minute of the match as his strike from the box rebounded off the cross bar.
After suffering defeat, Police Coach Anant Raj Thapa said that his players failed to perform well against NRT.
“We are under pressure after the keys players failed to perform against NRT. We took NRT lightly but they took advantage of poor performance of our team,” Coach Thapa said.
NRT Coach Raju Kaji Shakya expressed that they took an advantage of poor performance from Police. “We easily snatched three points from domestic football giant Police after they put up poor game,” Coach Shakya said.
Likewise, the departmental side APF held Chyasal to share a point in the league. Chyasal made a domination over APF from the kicked off whistle to final whistle but the all effort of the Chyasal players went in the vain as they shared point in the much win clash of the league.
APF failed to take lead in the match in the 16th minute as Chyasal’s goalie Alan Neupane made a punching saved in a brilliant headers from Rajan Gurung’s in Nabin Lama flank cross.
Chyasal also failed to move ahead in the match as its Mid-fielder Sunil Khadka failed to score in the one-versus-one with APF goalie Amrit Kumar Chaudhary after goalie Chaudhary made a brilliant saved.
APF goalie made yet another brilliant punching saved in the powerful strike off Amir Shrestha from the box in the 25th minute.
After sharing a point, Chyasal Coach said that after failed to score in the golden oppertinuties we are forced to share a point against APF.
APF Coach Rajendra Tamang was delighted to share point against Sankata with new faces.
“I had fielded all new faces against strongest side Chyasal, youth players played very well against Chyasal and we are successful on our map design against Chyasal,” Coach Tamang said.
Tribhuvan Army Club will take on Sankata Club in the last match of the 6th round on Tuesday at Dashrath Stadium, Kathmandu.
