Jumla, Sept 6: The Jumla Rara Ultra Marathon is taking place on September 15. International athletes from India, China and other countries besides those from Nepal would participate in the ultra-marathon to be organized by Karnali Sports Club Jumla.
Club president Saroj Shahi gave out this information in a press meet organized here today.
Shahi said the marathon has been organized with the objective of supporting the publicity of the prospective tourism areas in Karnali in the coming days. As he said this marathon will also send out the message that there is huge opportunity for developing sports tourism in Karnali.This marathon is one of the five major ultra-marathons organized under the banner of Nepal Trail Series 2019.
The Jumla Rara Ultra Marathon will start from the Chandannath Bhairabnath temple in Jumla and conclude after reaching Rara Lake in Mugu. The route of the ultra-marathon is Chandannath Bhairabnath temple–Tundikhel - Karnali Hospital – Kholikot - Karnali Technical School – Cherechaur – Khali - Nyaur – Kavra – Chautha – Bhulbhule – Chuchemara – Rara Lake.
The marathon will be held in two categories – women and male open. Athletics Olympian Hari Bahadur Rokaya said a five-kilometres race and one kilometer race would also be held for children as side event of the ultra-marathon.
The winners in both categories will bag Rs 75,000 (first prize), Rs 50,000 (second prize) and Rs 30,000 (third prize). (RSS)
