Kathmandu, Aug 21: Nepal was defeated to India in the opening match of fifth edition of U-15 SAFF (South Asian Football Federation) Championship. India is the host of Championship.
In the match held at the Kalyani Stadium, West Bengal, today India celebrated a resounding victory over Nepal it thrashed the competitor by 5-0.
Three goals had come before the first half and two in the second half. India's Maheson Singh hit the goalpost in the sixth minute of the match and Shubho Paul contributed one more in the 24th minute followed by third of first half from Anish Mazumder in the 43rd minute.
The fourth and fifth goals were scored by Taison Singh in the 49th minute and Sridarth Nongmeikapam in 56th minute.
Nepal has not yet won the Championship. It is based on a round robin format. Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan including the two countries are competing for the title.
Nepal will be meeting Sri Lanka on August 23 for its second match.
