Kathmandu, Nov. 27: 18 people, including legendary taekwondo player Deepak Bista, have applied for the post of member secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC), the executive body of Nepali sports.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports had called for applications for the post of Member Secretary a week ago. As of Friday, the last day for applications, 18 applications have been received.
Deepak Bista said that he has applied for the purpose of promoting sports in the right way. "As a player, I really understand the reality of the game. I spent 30 years in sports as a player and coach. I think as a manager I can still do a good and effective job in sports. Sports is my life. I still want to do something in sports.' He said.
Bista is a record player who has given four consecutive gold medals to Nepal in the South Asian Games (SAGS). He is also the second Nepali taekwondo player to travel to the Olympics. Sangina Vaidya of Taekwondo is the first athlete to pass the selection stage and participate in the Olympics.
Dr Achyut Lamichhane, RK Bista, Raviraj Karnikar, Mamta Shrestha, Man Bahadur Gurung, Sudil Shahi, Tanka Lal Ghising, Vinod Kumar Yadav, Bharat Maharjan, Devraj Chaulagain, Raj Kumar Karki, Dil Kumari Nepal, Jagatman Shrestha, Siddhartha Lama, Bharat Chalise, Chhumbi Lama and Sunil Nakarmi applied for the post of Member Secretary along with Taekwondo player Bista.
