Kathmandu, Dec. 22: In the wake of the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) of the Federal Parliament on Sunday, police have beefed up security as well as vigilance in three districts of Kathmandu Valley -- Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur. Metropolitan Police Range, Teku, has prepared a special action plan for the same, and that is being implemented after the approval of the Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari.
In line with the plan, Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force have upped checking in and around main city centres and open spaces of the Valley, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and spokesperson at Teku, Pramesh Bista, said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and central police spokesperson Basanta Bahadur Kunwar said, "Security has been tightened in view of probable demonstrations on the streets, though no such orders have come from higher authorities."
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Sunday summoned the heads of the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and the National Investigation Department (NID) and instructed them to prepare for the security of the election, announced for April 30 and May 10 next year.
An official who participated in the discussion, on condition of anonymity, told The Rising Nepal that PM Oli had instructed the security bodies to increase vigilance considering untoward incidents that might happen after the House dissolution.
Following the meeting of security chiefs with the Prime Minister Oli, police have intensified their vigilance and presence in possible demonstration spots.
NID’s intelligence wing has also stepped up surveillance, while the army has said it is monitoring the situation closely.
